Who is eligible for citizenship?
Obtaining citizenship by birth
- The child automatically becomes a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of where he was born, if at least one of the parents is a Moldovan citizen.
- A child born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova to foreign parents can obtain Moldovan citizenship, if at least one of the parents has a residence permit in the Republic of Moldova at the time of obtaining citizenship.
Acquisition of citizenship by inheritance
1. Descendants of persons born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova have the right to obtain Moldovan citizenship.
2. Descendants of those born or resident in the former territories of Bessarabia, Northern Bucovina, Herts region and MASSR before June 28, 1940 can apply for citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
