Romanian divorce/death notice

Marriages and divorces concluded abroad are registered in Romania by applying a mention on the Romanian birth or marriage certificate. It is essential that the divorce is registered in Romania in order to obtain the Romanian passport.

The mention of divorce is applied on the Romanian birth or marriage certificate, as the case may be, after receiving a Romanian birth certificate. If you have an old birth certificate, you will need to apply for a new one before the endorsement can be applied.

Required documents:
- Romanian birth certificate
- Extract from the original marriage certificate
- Divorce certificate
- Bulletin, passport, certificate of citizenship
- Power of attorney

If the divorce took place in Romania's business, it will be necessary to recognize the court decision by a Romanian court, a process that can last up to a year.

Death notice

For the death note , the process is similar. If one of the spouses has died, the mention on the Romanian birth or marriage certificate applies.

Required documents:
- Romanian birth/marriage certificate
- Death certificate
- Bulletin, passport, certificate of citizenship
- Power of attorney

It is important to note that, if the birth certificate was requested through the Consulate, the mention cannot be applied, and the process is only done at the City Hall of Sector 1 in Bucharest. The deadline for registering the mention is 3-5 months, and the costs vary depending on the documents.
