Reacquisition of the Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova
After the abolition of visas for many European countries, the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova has become much more attractive, offering visa-free access to more than 100 countries, including the European Union and the CIS area. The Republic of Moldova allows dual citizenship, so reacquiring Moldovan citizenship does not require relinquishing your current citizenship.
Steps for regaining Moldovan citizenship
According to the Citizenship Law, persons who have held Moldovan citizenship can apply for its reacquisition, keeping their foreign citizenship. Required documents include: autobiography, information about close relatives, family composition certificate, criminal record, copies of identity documents, photographs, tax receipts and other documents as required by ASP. The application can be submitted directly to ASP or the embassy if you live abroad.
Who is redemption available to?
Citizenship can be regained by those born in Moldova or with Moldovan roots, with a good reputation. Knowledge of the Moldovan/Romanian language is not mandatory.
